Deputies used excessive force and violated the rights of barbers at Strictly Skillz barber shop when they handcuffed and searched the barbers during a raid in the guise of a license inspection in 2010, an appeal court said this week. "It was a scene right out of a Hollywood movie," the U.S. Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals said in an opinion issued Tuesday, which puts the Pine Hills barbers' lawsuit against the Orange County Sheriff's Office back on track for trial.

Today a federal appeals court rebuked police in Orange County, Florida, for mounting a warrantless, SWAT-style raid on a barbership under the pretense of assisting state inspectors. "W e have twice held, on facts disturbingly similar to those presented here, that a criminal raid executed under the guise of an administrative inspection is constitutionally unreasonable," says the decision by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

The Satanic Temple responded to a Florida school board and judge decision allowing the dissemination of religious materials in public schools by distributing its own Satanic literature to Orange County classrooms. "In response to a recent School Board decision in Orange County, Florida that allows for the dissemination of religious materials in public schools, The Satanic Temple will be distributing educational religious material to students," reads a statement from the group.
