The Sterling area has fallen victim to three bank robberies in recent weeks, prompting the Loudoun County Sheriff's office to implement new measures to counteract bank robberies this holiday season. In conjunction with the FBI Washington Field Office and the department's partners on the Violent Crimes Task Forces in Northern Virginia, detectives with LCSO's Criminal Investigations Division are visiting banks and speaking with their employees about steps to take before, during and after a robbery while the Field Operations Division is increasing patrols of Loudoun County banks.

As tourism officials herald the rise of Loudoun's craft breweries - and county officials consider how to regulate them - Gov. Terry McAuliffe on Friday announced another boon to the local brewing industry: the creation of the largest hops yard in Virginia, and the mid-Atlantic's first commercial-scale hops processing facility. The processing facility will be built at Black Hops Farm in Lucketts, where 15 acres of former pasture land will be converted into a hops yard, the governor's office said in a statement.

The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said Smoot was arrested after a woman called police Sunday and said that her boyfriend had grabbed her during an altercation in an Ashburn home. Smoot's 9-year NFL career ended with the Redskins in 2009.
