Rob Lowe in Hot Water After Elizabeth Warren 'Chief' Tweet

Newser — Jenn Gidman

Elizabeth Warren officially entered the 2020 race on Saturday, and it caught the eye of Rob Lowe—whose tweet on the matter then caught a lot of eyes.

"Elizabeth Warren would bring a whole new meaning to Commander in 'Chief,'" the 54-year-old Parks and Rec star noted in a now-deleted tweet, an apparent poke at the Massachusetts senator for claiming she was Native American, per the Washington Post.

Lowe's post came on the same day that President Trump made his own much-maligned jab at Warren, once again using the name "Pocohontas" to refer to her and angering many with an apparent joke about the Trail of Tears.

The backlash led Lowe to take the first tweet down and put two more up, which didn't seem to make things much better.

Lowe noted he axed his original tweet because "some peeps got upset," but he added that at least he got to use the Oxford comma in this new tweet (commenters pointed out there was no use of the Oxford comma in his tweet).

Lowe then made an "observation": that "many polarizing politicians actually LIKE each other, privately help each other, then publicly stir the pot, playing for votes. That's fine. Only thing wrong with it is when we buy it whole cloth, breeding intolerance, anger and total inability to laugh at ANYTHING." Fox News notes Lowe has both defenders and detractors over his messages.

"Everybody is so sensitive these days," wrote conservative comedian brothers Keith and Kevin Hodge. Meanwhile, in the "what are you doing, Rob Lowe" camp: Mark Hamill, Alyssa Milano, and Valerie Bertinelli.
