Baker, Navarre hold position in football pollsNorthwest Florida Daily News, Fort Walton Beach — Seth Stringer Northwest Florida Daily News, Fort Walton Beach
Sept. 11--The status quo for area teams remains in the FloridaHSFootball.com ranks.
Baker (2-0) and Navarre (3-0) remain in their respective No. 2 and No. 7 spots in their 1A and 7A.
Niceville (3-0) and Freeport (3-0), both in the "First Five Out" of their respective classes, are still looking for a little respect.
And the area's six other teams -- including Walton and Fort Walton Beach at 2-1, Crestview and Choctaw at 1-2 and winless Rocky Bayou and South Walton -- didn't crack any mention in the polls.
Baker continues to be the highest ranked area team at No. 2 in 1A after running-clock wins over Rocky Bayou and South Walton at Doug Griffith Memorial Stadium. The Gators trail only defending champion Madison County (3-0, 24th in the Florida Top 25) and are also No. 2 in the Florida AP poll.
Bidding for a fifth straight Final Four appearance, the Gators have won 31 straight regular-season games entering Friday night's road trip to Northview (1-2) at 7 p.m.
Navarre, meanwhile, has held steady for three three straight weeks at No. 7 in 7A. The Raiders followed up a 28-21 win over archrival Gulf Breeze with a 34-0 victory over Pace and a 21-13 win at Milton.
Navarre, fresh off two straight district titles, travels to District 1 rival Lincoln (2-1 and on the "First Five Out") on Friday for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
Niceville earned its way on the "First Five Out" list following a 15-0 season-opening win over Mosley, a 41-0 blowout over Choctaw and a 29-17 win at Fort Walton Beach. The Eagles, bidding for a 19th straight playoff appearance, travel to Crestview Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff looking to end a four-game losing streak to the Bulldogs.
Freeport earned its way on the "First Five Out" list following a 42-36 overtime win at Maclay, a 19-7 victory at Holmes County and a 43-28 win at Pike Liberal Arts. The Bulldogs host a resurgent Walton program Friday for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
